How to Achieve a Healthy Lawn
Core Aeration
The mechanical removal of small cores of soil and thatch from the lawn. Allows the grass to grow deeper roots and make better use of water and fertilizer. Can be done in spring or fall.
Dethatching/Power Ranking
The process of removing the thatch layer from the turf. A thatch layer of ½ inch or more prevents air, light, and water from reaching the turf’s root zone. This is done in the spring.
Fertilizer and Weed Control
Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium promotes healthy growth and color. Weeds are considered a pest problem that could become out of control and could endanger the health of your family and the quality of your lawn.
Proper Watering
The average lawn uses about 1- 1 ½ inches of moisture a week. Rainfall or 1 to 2 deep watering’s a week is needed. It takes about 2 hours to apply 1” of water with an average size hose and average water pressure.
Proper Mowing
The grasses in our area do their best when cut between 2” and 3” high. Cut the grass when it reaches 3” to 4” in height.
